Taylors Road–Delahey

Type: Healthcare
Client: Kalyna Care
Size: 1,116m2
Location: Delahey, VIC, AU
Status: Stage 1 Completed

As part of a larger scope of works, Melbourne architect Thextonsmith were engaged to complete a significant refurbishment of the existing Kalyna Care facility. A detailed review and design process was undertaken to achieve a bright, new contemporary look focusing on resident and visitor experience, whilst maintaining the facility’s Ukranian heritage.

The entry, resident living and administration spaces were refurbished, with the creation of additional resident spaces due to efficient design and furniture layouts. Due to the age and design of the original facility, limited activity space was available to residents, so a new social hub was created with a courtyard pavilion café, connecting existing resident groups and inviting life and activity into the heart of the facility.

Approximately 40 existing resident rooms were refurbished, with conversion of 10 existing rooms to eight premium rooms. An understated sense of luxury within resident rooms was created with the addition of a fabric bed head, new joinery in walnut laminates and full-length curtains and sheers. Premium rooms feature a raised coffer ceiling, banquette seating, kitchenette and sitting area opening directly onto a semi-private alfresco courtyard.

TLC Sunlight – Whittlesea

Client: TLC Aged Care
Services: Architecture, Interiors, Project Management, Superintendency
Size: 9,687m2
Location: Whittlesea, VIC, AU
Status: Completed

Located in a growing region on the urban-rural fringe of Melbourne, this project designed by Melbourne architect Thextonsmith required the extensive redevelopment of an existing 90-bed aged care facility, doubling it in size and transforming it into a 180-bed facility.

True to the facilities name and the clients brief, the internal spaces are bright, generous and welcoming. Cathedral ceilings create dramatic volumes in living and public areas, with finishes in muted oak tones, rich carpets and warm white. With subtle textures added to the cathedral ceilings and passage wall panelling by incorporating grooved linings, a layered and textural effect was created.

Social facilities include a café, cinema/virtual reality room, activity rooms and various living, dining and sitting rooms. Beauty therapy facilities were created with a high-end salon- like experience through the use of stone and marble look finishes, edge lit mirrors and a refined selection of fixtures.

Marshall Street III – Ivanhoe

Type: Architecture, Full Interior Design and Project Management
Client: Confidential
Size: 1,000m2
Location: Ivanhoe, VIC, AU
Status: In Progress

A new high-end home in Ivanhoe, this project was driven by the client’s brief for a French Provincial luxury home that sits grandly upon the site. This home was designed by Melbourne architect Thextonsmith with luxury in mind, and luxury was what the client got.

The ground floor, being the mancave, features dark wood flooring and dark grey wall panelling as the key feature. The main sitting area on this floor features opulence furnishings and a black marble fireplace with gold details adds a cosy yet extravagant touch. This is carried on to the pool area and the TV room where, even though intricately detailed, the furnishings have a calm and homely feeling. The bar room features full height display shelves which also double as a hidden door which leads to the wine cellar which was designed to make visitors feel like they’re in a cave.

The first floor is the main living area. This level is lighter and the implementation of gold elements, luxury furnishings and natural marble make visitors feel like they’re in a showroom. The green modular sofa adds an element of colour. The white marble tv feature also doubles up as a fireplace that was designed to make it feel like it’s ‘elevated’, making it look less heavy.

The second floor contains the private living areas. We designed a separate family area that’s light and cosy. We wanted the private areas to sooth the homeowners from the glitz and glam of the other levels. The design of the master bedroom evokes calmness with the beige and gold colours gently introduced.

The Peak @ Toa Payoh, Singapore

Type: Interior renovation
Client: Confidential
Size: 111m2
Location: Singapore
Status: Completed

A modern city chic apartment, right in the heartlands of Singapore.

“This home is going to be my sanctuary; I want a home that looks like a hotel but feels like home.”

Our client came to us wanting an apartment that’s luxurious yet homely, a place that feels sultry and elegant and we certainly delivered.

A neutral white is used as the core colour for the joinery throughout the house. This allows other colours to stand out and enabled the client to have interchangeable colours and furnishings within the house, that she can easily change up to refresh the look.

Throughout the house, we added gold chandeliers, furnishings and fixtures to add into the luxurious element that the client wanted. To balance this, we also added earth tones like a dark grey sofa and beige headboard into the mix to make it a little more homely.

As this is a small apartment, having restraint and not adding too many elements everywhere ensures the space doesn’t feel cluttered.
