Melbourne Aged Care Architect Thextonsmith was tasked with creating a fresh new face for an existing aged care facility in the Geelong suburb of Belmont, to align with the client’s new portfolio and aspirations. Providing a grand new entrance for this assisted-living facility improves its presentation and feel for both guests and residents.
This two-level commercial healthcare renovation and extension features a practical yet luxurious new undercroft pick-up and drop-off area, leading to the main entry and reception. To the right of this is a redesigned medical centre with a waiting area and six consulting rooms. To the left is the aged care foyer which leads to the heart of the home via an elegant and spacious passage.
A new gym, hydrotherapy pool, beauty therapy and physiotherapy rooms are accessed from this passage, providing ample activities to keep residents active and healthy. The passage opens out into a new commercial kitchen and dining area with café, plus two lifts to Level One.
Level One consists of 15 one-bedroom resident suites. Each apartment has its own kitchenette, dining and living area, alongside a separate bedroom and ensuite bathroom, and most apartments have their own private balcony. Typical communal areas such as living and dining, activity and outdoor terrace are provided, alongside a nurses’ station, serving kitchen, clean and dirty utility and storage areas.
With significant critical services being renovated, such as the commercial kitchen, main switchboard, main entry/reception and medical centre, this project required careful consideration with regards to early works for electrical, site compound and operations during construction.
